I'm still a little confused about this.  I'll quote from the Bentley:

"On 1982 through 1984 Rabbits and Pickup Trucks both kinds of oil
pressure switches are used: normally-closed 0.15- to 0.45-bar (2.1- to
6.4psi) switch on the cylinder head, and a normally-open 1.8 +/-
0.2-bar (26 +/- 3-psi) switch on the oil filter brackets of standard
diesel engines"
