[Vwdiesel] Looking for some tricks to get lifters out of a hydraulic head

Hi all, I am trying to save what seems to STILL be a
good head. As a result of the motor running for some
time after timing belt slipped and then broke, 5 of
the 8 lifters have literally been squired by the top
of the valve stem.

The one that I was lucky enough to get out left the
center part of the lifter on top of the stem. I could
get this off with my fingers, but it had been
flattened a bit.

The tops of these lifters are actually wavy, from the
force of the cam against them out of timing. They
still move freely in the cyl. but they will not come
out, suction cups do not work or any magnets I have.
I have tried to drill into them, no chance, to hard of
a metal.

Today I have tried to Gorilla Glue a nut to the top of
the lifter to give me something to grab onto, hope
that works.

*************** MY QUESTION IS ******************
Do you think I can get a mig welder to tack a piece of
steal to the top of the wasted lifters, just to get
them out without damaging the cyl. walls?
***************************************************
Thanks, Bryan
