  On an A1 it doesn't.  A2's put a plate, shield, whatever, behind 
the cam, with a hole in it that the cam pokes through.  It's bolted 
to the block so pulling the head makes the cam in the way so to 
speak.  You can pull a couple small bolts and pry it out of the way.  
A1 doesn't have this as I recall. 
  I don't remember having the tensioner stud being in the way of 
removing the head.  <shrug>
