[Vwdiesel] OT- aluminum parts stuck

Here's the deal.

One of teh wife's tools for digging a rust ring out of your eye is sort 
of screwed.  She left the battery in it (alkaline) and it leaked.  The 
case end is machined aluminum with machined threads (fine) to hold one 
AA battery.  Battery leakage caused the threads to become corroded shut, 
with what I assume to be alkaline corrosion.

I would like to salvage the unit, It's not terribly expensive, but 
principle dictates that I try to separate the screw top from the body, 
to remove the old battery, and repair the damage- Making it as new, or 
improving on the original design in the process. :-)

Thoughts on getting the stuck threads apart, bearing in mind it is 
alkaline corrosion?
