  No, I don't recommend trying to split the race with one. :-o  I use it to 
open up the gap between the outer face of the inner race and the 
inside face of the hub, so that pry bars or such can be inserted.  It 
doesn't take any hard hammering and splintering is highly less likely.  
Still, be safe though.
