[Vwdiesel] Cheap tomorrow?

Today I check the prices in Singapore.
unleaded S$1.91/liter
diesel S$1.44/liter
which translate to 
unleaded $1.33/liter
diesel $1.01/liter
or 
unleaded $5.03/us gallon
diesel $3.83/us gallon
At least diesel is cheaper here.
I remember a month ago in LA the diesel was $3.25/g.
Why is diesel cost more than unleaded regular in US? it just doesn't make
sense.
Who would want to drive a diesel car paying more for diesel fuel and diesel
engine premium? It just doesn't pay any more in my opinion.
If car companies want to be successfully at reintroduce diesel technology they
first have to address this question and find a way to lower the diesel price in
order to attract more buyers.
