Simple Green works great as well. My 91 Jetta TD gets dark back there all
the time. I just wash it down with some Simple Green and it is good as new.

I finally got time to wash my 1.6TD A2 Jetta this
weekend after doing some work in my sister-in-laws 76
Volvo 242, muffler, tailpipe and washer un-clogged.

It has not been washed in months, it WAS white.
During the time I was driving it with pump timing way
retarted, the soot built up on the back. I was bad.
I was dreading having to use harsh engine de-greasers
to clean it or wax compound.

For some reason good old Lestoil came to mind under
the kitchen sink. Man, did that work Great!!!!!
Easy to use, no elbow grease needed, it just worked
and the skin did not fall off my fingers.

My other Jetta TDI wagon is white as well...
