Hi Doug;
If you are getting excess oil into the air filter you need to fix a
problem. The only time I would consider a catch bottle is if I was a 1000
miles from home and worried about excessive blow by. A VW diesel shouldn't
need an oil catch bottle. If it does it is much better to fix the problem.
Unless your engine needs rebuilding I would think the excessive oil
in the air cleaner is probably caused by crud in the oil separator in the
valve cover. I would suggest taking the valve cover off and having it hot
tanked. It is almost impossible to get it cleaned with home solvents. If
your engine doesn't have a cam oil shield install one. They are cheap and
lesson the load on the oil separator in the valve cover.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Oil Catch Bottle - Looking for Good Design
A previous entry referenced adding an oil catch bottle setup to prevent
run-away caused by oil getting into air filter, etc.
If someone has a slick design, I'd appreciate learning from you. If
this was provided previously, I apologize for not keeping up.
Thanks - Doug
