Also, did you test the new t-stat prior to installing it?  I always try to do that and 
have had more than one "new" t-stats not work to my satisfaction.  I use a pot of hot 
water on the stove with a thermometer in there to see when the valve starts to open and if 
it fully opens in boiling water.
