Thank you , Roger Brown, for amplifying on the Caltrans chain requirement. I agreed on everything you said except one point, Caltrans DOES use salt, at least according to some local newspaper articles & TV news reports I have seen. I am very sensitive to the use of salt for road deicing. This is one of the main reasons I left Minn. Back in the 1960s, most cars would start rusting out in 3 years. 1957 & 1958 Plymouths & Dodges would start rusting out in less than one year. Here in Calif. you can still find rust free old cars including the afore mentioned Dodges & Plymouths. I have collected old cars over the years. I have 2 Hudsons, 2 Packards, a 1941 Ford & other old cars that are rust free.
