Use a big enough cable and there will be no loss of cranking speed.  As I mentioned, I run 1/0 
welding cable on my relocated batteries in my 4x4 and both the starter and winch work as well, if 
not better than with the stock battery up front (and the wimpy stock cables).  I run both power and 
ground cables off the battery up near the front of the vehicle.  Then I tie that to the starter and 
from there up to the rest of the vehicle wiring.
