  A practice I've adopted is to dump it into a clean container so you can 
see just what all (that's loose) was in the filter.  Gives you an idea at 
least, just how dirty or at least chunky, your fuel was.  THEN if you 
REALLY want to, you can pour of the fuel from over the settled out 
crap.  Usually not enough to bother with unless you're just stuck for 
any more fuel to pre fill it.
