[Vwdiesel] Thermostat temps

  I ran a 92C for several years in the Rabbit and finally 
changed back to the 87C  (197.6F vs 188.6F).  I found 
no noticeable difference in driveability, mileage or heater 
output.  I DID have more margin in my cooling system though. 
I managed to blow a head gasket while I was running water 
through it for a  day or two to flush it.  
  Best I could figure was I got enough "localized" boiling as to 
create vapor bubbles that got to the stat and insulated it 
against the water.  It simply wouldn't open without a good 
antifreeze mix.
