I ran a 92C for several years in the Rabbit and finally
changed back to the 87C (197.6F vs 188.6F). I found
no noticeable difference in driveability, mileage or heater
output. I DID have more margin in my cooling system though.
I managed to blow a head gasket while I was running water
through it for a day or two to flush it.
Best I could figure was I got enough "localized" boiling as to
create vapor bubbles that got to the stat and insulated it
against the water. It simply wouldn't open without a good
antifreeze mix.
