  I don't like the sounds of it missing.  Smoke under the hood is 
generally an exhaust leak.  Steam and missing usually indicates 
a cracked block from replacing a head gasket.  :-(  BTDT and 
seen it several times too.  The 1.6 doesn't have this happen 
nearly as often as the 1.5, they're very intolerant of anything 
in the head bolt holes when reassembling.
  Hopefully it's an exhaust leak and a bad injector.  That'd explain 
difficult starting just as easily.  :-)  This time of year only a few 
seconds of glow should be needed.
