Having done quite a few different conversions myself, I have been thinking
about this since you posted. First question, is it not a 2.8L V-6 engine?
I've never heard of a 2.4L made by any american comapny. 2nd question, what
year and drive are we dealing with here? 4th question, what will the main
uses of this vehicle be?
I ask because, I'm thinking a couple of different things. First, you will
not find a 4wd trans that will bolt to that engine. Second, you will need a
clutch from a north-south car, such as a 4000, quantum, VW fox, Audi Fox, or
VW Dasher. An audi 80/90 will also work. These all have to be the 4-cyl
variety, of course. Third, the 4-cyl is longer than a V-6, but that bay
accepted an inline 4.2 litre six, so that won't be a problem. Of course, you
will be building engine mounts, but that is pretty minor. If you want A/C,
you will also need lines made for it. You will also have to fabricate
brackets for the P/S pump if you intend on using it. If this will be an
off-roader, you will, ,of course.
I was also thinking of an Audi/VW 5-cyl diesel, because you could use a
Quattro/Syncro trans and run the front driveshafts off it. However, this
also moves the engine forward quite a bit, and I'm not sure you have that
much room. I think I've covered everything, but, then again, I always seem
to forget something.
