One question I asked that no one answered was in switching from 11mm to 12 mm bolts or studs. I assumed you would either run a 12 mm tap into a hole in the block tapped for 11mm. I also raised this question on the Minneapolis Star Tribune motoring site. I received an answer there suggesting there would not be enough metal for a re-tap of the 11mm hole. I looked at the block side of the 11mm bolt & 12mm stud & can see their point. Those of you who have converted a 11mm block to a 12mm block, how did you do it? I am now thinking it would be wiser to put in some 11mm Hilo-coils where the block threads are stripped & stick with my 11mm bolts, except to get an 11mm stud to replace the spot where the head is cracked, drilling further down in the hole & tapping it where it is cracked. What have I to loose if it doesn't work other than some Hilo-coils & a head gasket set?.
Regardless, I think I will salvage the block in the Rabbit & try my luck at rebuilding it. I was successful in doing so on my Model A.
