We have a small fleet of CTDs in Dodge one tons, and the #1 concern is fuel pressure.  We have a gauge in front of everyone's face, and if the fuel pressure from the lift pump faulters one bit, the truck must be stopped and the pump changed - otherwise it WILL take out the main pump (in several generations of the 24V engine).  Yes, it cost us a few pumps to learn that, but careful monitoring solved the problem.
