I have recently purchased an AAZ TD engine from Japan through this
process. I pulled the valve cover to make sure I had the thing on
TDC to pull the injection pump and discovered that the engine is
extremely clean inside, virtually no oil or crud build up. BTW since
this discussion has included Perkins diesel, there were a lot of
Diesel Jeeps built for specialty service that had a Perkins diesel in
them. There were thousands made for mail delivery service and as
aircraft tugs at air force bases. These come up on ebay every so
often but are always too pricey for me. The plane tugs have only a
cab and a flat rear section like a fifth wheel tow truck.
Unfortunately, they have really low geared transmissions so they
would be much good on the highway. Hayden
