I concur with what Rudy stated.  Mine was in pieces as well (pictures
linked below).  I definitely seems to limit the amount of slip allowed
between the two flanges (compared to an older transmission that didn't
have the brass ring).  Although, I don't know if this really qualifies
as a LSD.
