In your replies it would be nice to say if your from the USA, Canada, UK, or rest of Europe. Why? Because 50 MPG in UK Imperial gallons is like 43 USA MPG. I have never heard of the Honda CRX getting 50 MPG & I have been on the watch for high MPG vehicles most of my life. My stepson currently has an '89 Honda CRX 5 speed although I doubt he keeps track of his MPG. Currently, there are no new high MPG vehicles for sale in the USA except for the Toyota Prius & Honda Civic. I understand Honda no longer imports the Insight & the Geo Metro/Suzuki Swift went away years ago. The Ford Escort got much better MPG than the Ford Focus. "Ask the Man who Owns One". With my 1996 Ford Escort 5 speed I could get 40 MPG on the highway without using my air-conditioning, 36 MPG with. With the Focus I am lucky to see 30 MPG. I live in Calif.
Back in 1950s thru the 1970s, you could not buy a minivan in the USA except for the VW Microbus, unless you count Chevy Corvair & Ford Falcon vans of the '60 as one. When Chrysler brought the front wheel drive minivan, it caught on big time & then saved Chrysler. I think the same unmet pent up demand exists here for a high MPG affordable diesel car as existed for the minivan, & the first company to strongly market such a car in the USA will meet with the same success, or more, as Chrysler did with the minivan.
