[Vwdiesel] Body "filler"

Motoring the back roads this spring with the widows open,
Goldie fills with the reek of french fry exhaust, and Mega dust!
James, you would never make it to town!

The construction of the A2 jetta's rear end is thus::
Aft of the wheel arches, there is a narrow space between the outer rear
fender skin and a bulkhead below the trunk floor. This is sealed at the
bottom to form a non.draining compartment about 2 feet long 2 or 3 inches
wide, and about 6 inches deep.
Retains water if the trunk lid leaks, also condensation.

One on each side.

Not so on Goldie this spring.

Both are open at the bottom and allow exhaust and dust to fill the trunk,
and seep thru in to the car.

What to do, on a car with 500,000km of salty winter roads, and near the end
(don't let her hear that) of the road.

I bought a couple of cans of that expanding foam gap filler at the building
supply place and artfully "injected" from below, to plug the holes.

Sort of reverse lipposuction.

When that had hardened up and sort of sealed the leaks, I emptied the rest
of the can in to the remaining voids from above in the trunk.

I am now going to consider the rocker frame rails which are getting a bit
cheesey too.

Maybe she'll last another winter !

(I've been saying that for the last 4 years)

Sandy
