Apparently It was generally just special editions that had them, mines a pacific.
They're powered subs right in the doors, the speaker is integrated the signal comes right from the deck to them, then to all the speakers.
From looking at the doors they just looked like the regular stock speakers, I didn't even know they were there till I was tracing the wires,and opened up the door cavity.
The service manual gives very little mention of them, they're in the block wiring diagram, they don't even tell you where they are located, or what type of signal it is.

Does anyone know with certainty if the stock sub amplifiers in the doors of the 90/91 jetta amplify speaker output from the deck, or does it just pass the signal through to the other speakers only amplifying the subs in the doors.
The input wires to the amps are common ground signal ,and the output are two ungrounded to each speaker.
Right now it is running a non factory deck off the speaker outputs.
I know some other ampifiers are capable of using line or speaker input on the same line (not at the same time naturally).
