Can't answer your question but incase you didn't know, Volvo is now owned by Ford. As to the VW-Volvo connection, it is my understanding the '80s era  Volvo in line 6 cylinder diesels were sourced from VW & were used in VW commercial vehicles that were not exported to the USA, except for the commercial VW gas  truck chassis that Winnebago used for their Rialto class C motorhomes.
