Silly me... no wear... just oil pockets!!! So all is
cool and the piston is AOK...

re: floating VW... well if they REALLY floated they
ended up downstream... never saw that happen, but it
did... (the river bed could be dry again in a matter
of hours... pretty fierce water...) The "Buggy Boys"
were always the first to chance a crossing... 
At least 80% of the cars on the road were VW's (I'm
talking Beetles and Kombi's here...)and the rest were
"Yanks" or Merc's... Maybe it was a combination of a
V8 low revs and an exhaust pipe you could shove a coke
bottle up that was their downfall in the water... Dubs
would just bubble away quite happily...

No fear of my Syncro floating... though you could
strain pasta in it...
