[Vwdiesel] trailer hitch

There is a bolt-on hitch by Reese for A2's. I bought one a few years ago to
install on a 90 Jetta.

I'll be going back for another one shortly (when I shake this cold) to put
on my recently acquired 89TD

It comes with new, longer bolts, with extension sleeves, and bolts in to the
4 vertical bolt holes going up in to the bumper extensions from under the car.

If you have never had the rear bumper off an A2, it's a hoot.

Those 4 bolts up through the bottom,, and 1 each side inside the trunk
(horizontal)

and it just slides out. (removal not required for hitch installation)

The plastic side ears have wedges that slide in to plastic "receptors" when
it is pushed in.

I have towed a fairly heavy fibreglass boat (15') with a big old evinrude V4
on it with no trouble, and also my 600cc Skidoo formula plus on a 4'x8'
trailer. A little more shifting in hilly terrain, but no problems.

Biggest problem was pulling the boat out of the water on the trailer, on
the steep gravel ramp, the front wheels would break loose.

Solution, bore a hole in the front bumper for a 1-7/8" ball for launch and
retreival.

I have 2 sizes of box trailers, and a boat trailer, and could not live
without hitches.

The smaller box trailer, about 3.5x7 feet, makes my old A2, Goldie, in to
the pick-up I could never otherwise justify or afford.
