got a phone call from my buddy a few minutes ago, he had an explanation
for the crack. He looked at the engine today with the flood light, then
went out and looked at the engine compartment, he says from the looks
of it, it isn't a freeze related crack, but an impact related crack
attributed to blunt force trauma induced by remington, there was a
small hole in the fender on the passenger side and a little bigger hole
in the inner fender right at the body/fender junction, didn't notice
the exterior damage due to the rust. So .... the head is most likely
fine, I did drain coolant from the block prior to pulling it and got a
lot from the head. So things are looking up, still not good, I have
neither time nor money to deal with fixing the block, though I would
like to kick his boys butt. in the mean time, I'll keep my eyes open
for a good block in the boneyard.
