[Vwdiesel] Jetta water leaks

I left the car outside last night and decided this morning, that was the
last straw.  I removed the Windshield today, had to cut and chip away at the
old Glue in Gasket but got the Windshield out in one piece, cut it free from
the outside and didn't have to hassle with the tack strips.
 
I believe the replacement Gasket is Rubber and not a Glue in one.  I'm
wondering if I leave the Metal Strips for this Gasket or remove them.  I'd
appreciate any suggestions from anyone who's installed a Windshield using
this Gasket.  I'm thinking I'll install it and then run a bead of Sealant
under the Seal afterwards.
