[Vwdiesel] engine enterchange info/thoughts

Are you doing a 1.6 or 1.9 "pre computer" engine?
It is my understanding that a 1.6 TD with appropriate
mods (such as an intercooler and injectors) can reach
close to 90 HP. Or am I just on crack? The first
TDI's were right at 90HP from the factory, so I
suppose that one could be stout enough to pull the car
okay. Especially since a '97 Passat wagon was
available with a TDI. The Cabrio would be lighter.
On the other hand, you could just go out and buy a '97
Passat wagon with a TDI installed by the factory if
that is what you wanted. Plus, the 90 is on the low
end of a TDI's potential power output instead of
having the 90 being right at the very top.
So, I wouldn't really think about that conversion
unless I already happened to have a Passat with a dead
engine and I happened to have an engine waiting around
to be put into something, and I didn't have something
different to put the engine in (like a Cabrio...).
Just my thoughts.
