Thanks, Rudy, but I doubt Jack can help me.
He told me previously he only deals in the vw diesels that were sold in the US--has no parts or tools for the ones that sold in Canada only in the mid-1990s, when VW brought no diesels to the US. He does not list the 2066 tool on his website.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] 2066 tool dial indicator
I have the 2066 tool for checking the static timing on the injection pump of
my 1994 Jetta TD, but when I bought it, I chose just the tool instead of the
tool with gauge because I had several dial indicators and figured I'd
probably be able to use one of those. Boy, was I wrong. Mine don't fit and
nobody in this town (rural NW LP of MI) carries dial indicators.
Anyway, does someone have a dial indicator that fits the 2066 tool and its
extender rod properly that has a brand name and product number on it? Most
of the catalogs don't supply enough information to know for certain that the
dial indicator will both fit into the collet on the 2066 and accept the tiny
threads in the tip extender, as well as provide the 3mm range VW suggests
for this task.
