I see a lot of people that think new shocks will make
clearance for their tires, make it ride higher, etc.
Springs are for the lift (and PRESSURE on the tires for
traction) and the rebound. Shocks CONTROL the rebound
or bounce and dampen the compression.
Unless new shocks/struts come with new springs they won't
really help with sag, just a slamming or bouncy ride mostly.
Were there GTI springs available? Otherwise some heavier
aftermarket or even custom springs might be the trick with that
much weight. The original ones ARE generally pretty soft to start
with.
