How do you know the disc is fine if you haven't looked in there yet?
I've had the little dampening springs from the disc wear out and break
into pieces then rattle around in there and cause problems. So the
disc material still looked fine, but the disc itself as a whole unit
was shot. I have yet to see a pressure plate or bearing failure that
resulted in pieces floating around inside there. Though I haven't seen
too many clutch problems with these. They last pretty well, at least
for me. (Knock on wood!!)
There are different options for the timing tools on Ebay. I haven't
bought from them, though, so I can't speak as to the quality.

> My jetta clutch has failed (actually the disc is fine, parts are floating-maybe pressure plate or bearing failure). Not sure what i have in there as yet.
> It is a 91 jetta though it has a 1.9 motor. I usually use autohauz though wondered if yawl have had success with other sources.
> Also, i want to time this motor and and a 1.6 that is going into a cabrio and is currently on a cart receiving a new timing belt, oil cooler, thermostat

> So: i would like to purchase a timing tool kit, a bit better than harbor freights quality, or is this one enough!
> I am looking for a decent working 1.6 motor and 5speed trans, summer is a great time to travel for one.
