On the 1.5 engine, they are hard enough to get parts and 1.6 engines are common enough that I would just buy a 1.6 and then you can find the parts and the 1.6 bolts almost right in (exhaust hook ups may be different). If you need a rebuilt 1.6 with 20,000 miles on it I have one I am going to sell if you or anyone else would like it already boxed up since I switched to the 1.9 td aaz engine.

With the under sized pulleys it is suppose to help with horse power since the engine doesn't have to work as hard to turn as many revs. It shouldn't hurt anything other then maybe your alternator won't have enough revs to have power at idle. But this is more of a performance thing for someone looking to squeeze every last bit of HP out of there engines that have a water pump, power steering pump, AC, large alternator etc (what ever else is on the newest engines out there). For a simple vw engine I don't think it would be worth the time and money to get it done.

Update on my radiator problem with overheating with the new radiators. The last new one also didn't have a baffle to make the coolant go through the radiator (two new radiators with the same problem). The radiator guy took it apart and put on in now.
