The car is going on 23 years, and will (or does) require a new timing chain
and maybe a valve job and rings. It will need a propshaft central support
bearing, new propshaft universal joints, suspension components such as
shocks/struts and ball joints (inner and outer), exhaust
components/pipes/resonators/mufflers, at least 5 complex expensive rubber
coolant hoses and a thermostat, a few new wheel bearings, 4 new tires and
possibly a few rims, headlight bulbs and maybe reflectors, wiper blades,
brake pads and rotors all around, flexible brake lines, air conditioning
components and drive belts, power window regulators, and it might need a
new windshield due to multiple small scratches and chips and stars.

Just exactly what else has failed or is risky is anybodies guess. If it
needs a fuel injection pump.......sell your house.

Set a cost on each of the above items at about $400-500 just to keep it
simple, if you can find the parts, and if you can find a factory repair
manual to support the endless fixes. Mercedes parts tend to be expensive
and repair protocols are hard to discover.

Just my 2 Deutsch marks.

Incidentally, I have a 2000 MB E320 and know from experience that parts
are far more than those for my many VW's.
