My son, the mechanic has a customer with a late 80's (I think it is an  
86) Jetta turbo diesel sitting at his shop.  It runs but need some  
work to be fully drivable, the body is in good shape and the interior  
is very rough.  The problem?  Texas has just started a new program in  
a few metro areas that exceed pollution standards.  This program will  
give a voucher worth up to $3500 dollars for older car owners to buy  
new cars.  He has decided to go for that deal and buy, can you believe  
this, a Toyota Tacoma!  Anyway, he might be willing to part with the  
car to a private seller if he could get the same amount of money.  I  
don't known if he is getting the full 3500 but I will have my son  
check with him.  Personally, I would buy it in a minute but money and  
projects leave little room or money to save this car.  BTW it has  
brand new tires on 13" VW alloys, has had some shift mechanism work  
done and some other things.  I am in Grapevine, Texas between Dallas  
and Ft. worth and would be willing to act as intermediary as well as  
provide a place to stay it someone wanted to come from out of town.   
My fear is that this car will be sent directly from the dealership to  
the crusher and the engine and all other turbo specific parts will be  
lost.  Let me hear from you if anyone wants to try and save this car
