detach both ends, pull out the old ones, slide in the new ones.
Trickiest thing is to get both sides pulling the same, which is not all
that tricky really. I've found it does work better to replace the cable
and doing the rear brakes at the same time- then for sure you get the
cable the right length with new brakes, and it *should* never have to be
touched again.
If you drive over much gravel, I would recommend sliding a length of
something tough over the brake cable where it is exposed to road
booogers... saves the outer jacket, and saltwater doesn't get in and
kill the new one as fast.
