I never remove manifolds, it's so easy to lift the head off with them
attached, and removing them would be hours of frustrating, knuckle-bashing
work. Have done about 5 NAs that way, just pop off the exhaust clips and yank.
When I had to do goldie 2 yrs ago, (turbo), I studied it for a bit, and
decided I could get it out without dismounting the manifolds or turbo..The
oil supply line for the turbo has to come off, of course, then, what to do
about the drain to the oil pan?
I chose to disconnect it at the oil pan elbow, because it was routed OUTSIDE
the rear engine mount, (not the way the factory installs it, inside).
You can disconnect it at the turbo outlet, one bolt, but replace the O ring
with a new one at re-assembly.
My lifting equipment at present is an electric winch hoist rated at 440lbs
with double pulleys.
I can even lift the back end of an A2 to the ceiling with it. (Yes, I use
jack stands!)
It is hung from a modest steel beam that spans 4 of the garage "engineered"
joist/rafters.
This rig will lift a complete engine/tranny assy. without sweat.
Previous to this, I used one of those ratchet cable hoist/come-along devices
rated at 2 tons, which is still rigged, for heavier jobs.
I carefully rigged a 3 point hitch with 2 chains to keep it from tipping and
lifted it off (see pics) Put it back the same way
