[Vwdiesel] your over heating issue

I had that problem about a few years ago,the fan cooled that area down,
but the rest stayed hot, it turned out that there were clogs in the internal
rad pipes causing it to not circulate properly(apparently it's not uncommon).

Buying a used rad  you never know what it's history is, could end up worse, or better but not 100%.
A new one costed me around $90.
If I recall, I started heating it up and used a infared thermometer and the temps were varying.
Right now I'm waiting for a special low temperature fan switch I ordered to replace the
current one in the rad, so it doesn't have to get sooo hot before the fan turns on.

we have alot of killer hills in B.C.(Canada)

The timing won't make a big temp difference on that engine.

Chances are you have some air in the cooling system.

On a side note, there are some vacuum devices which "burp" air out of

cooling systems, which make them easier to fill. Anyone have one?

Can I just take an old pressure cap and hook it up to a vacuum pump?

Nick, check your cooling system for air captive in the head. A few
thermal cycles will help, but it would be better to somehow get it out
first. Chrysler puts a plug in their 4 cyl heads for this.
