Check this out -

I came across this during one of my eBay searches for parts.

My brake problems were caused by (drum roll..........)

Defective brake shoe hardware. Seems as though the arm that the hand brake
cable attaches to had a VERY slight bend in it and when the hardware heated
up and the metal expanded, the brake shoes would not retract after being
engaged. The shoes would work fine when cold in the shop. I accidentally
discovered this when I bumped the hand brake cable when taking off the drum
after a road test and heard the brake shoes retract. Before discovering
this, I replaced just about every other component on the braking system.

Oh well - now I have a brand new brake hydraulic system that should last for
years. The master cylinder was bad as well, but was not the cause of the
locked up drum.

Another Plus --- I can do a brake shoe and bearing job in minutes with my
eyes closed!
