If you want you can pull the injectors or glow plugs, put a little oil in
each cylinder and turn it over by hand. I would put a new timing belt on it
if it were me. Seems when things sit it tends to make rubber and such
brittle but then that is my opinion.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] swapping engines
Hi,
I am swapping engines in a 82 VW diesel Rabbit. The
engine I am putting in was running good 4 years ago
when I took it out of another diesel Rabbit. Should
a pull an injector so there is less compression and
rotate the engine a few times prior to putting it and
getting it going. Can I just take a wrench to the
crankshaft and rotate a few times to free up
everything.
Thanks
Dave
