[Vwdiesel] TDI front struts

On my 03 Jetta, the front struts are labeled to not open due to gas pressure.
I obtained inserts, and just want to make sure, before I pull everything
apart, that the OEM struts are rebuildable.

I gather that the strut gets compressed prior to extraction...

Are there any other gotchas?

One nice thing, unlike A2 is that the alignment doesn't need to be redone.
