[Vwdiesel] help my '89 Jetta stopped running !!!!

  I think 40K is replacement interval (been a long time since I looked) 
so put 30K on it and let it sit a few years...  :-(

  If all the covers aren't in place, the A/C belt probably broke and 
a pice of it got in the timing belt area and cause it to break.  
Likewise it could've been the other way around.  Look for 
wobbliness on the crank pulley, frozen A/C clutch bearing.  
Might even have a slipped cam sprocket (which won't really be 
detectable if the belt is broken.  
  You'll likely never hear pistons meet valves.  It happens so fast 
and everything just stops.  Hopefully nothing's broken or bent and 
it's just something else but if not only the cranking speed is higher 
but it sounds different, mostly in the regularness of the "grunts" then 
likely you have bent valves, broken lifters and possibly a broken cam.
Pistons are usually fine.
