[Vwdiesel] Starting problem: '85 Jetta 1.6L non-turbo

I agree that there may be other poor connection issues with slow cranking,
but good glowplugs can hide a multitude of sins. My 'Q' will start after one
or 2 revs but if I forget to wait a few seconds first; then it takes longer
to crank. Same for 1 dead plug. So if I had one dead plug and it cranked
slowly, starting would take significantly longer. Then battery issues can
come in. Before I bought this gel battery the old battery would crank well
for about 15 cranks and then start to lose power. However as it normally
started easily and over here we tend to go only as cold as -3 or 4 deg C I
could get away with it!
All I'm saying is check glowplugs first as it's so easy[ish]
