[Vwdiesel] GM V-8 diesels of the '80s

I've done some looking into this...

The V-6 diesels came in 2 flavors - RWD with cast iron heads and a bell
housing pattern interchangable with the V-8s, and FWD with aluminum heads
and a smaller bolt pattern compatible with the 2.8 gasser V-6.

I was thinking of the possibilities of replacing the 2.8 in my S-10 with a
4.3 diesel. It's been done, but you have to find one of each of them so that
you can use the bottom end of the FWD engine which bolts up to the 2.8
transmission and the cast iron heads off of the RWD version so you have the
correct mounting bosses for the accessory drive.

Another swap I've seen is to put a 4.3 diesel in place of a 2.8 gas in a
Fiero.
