[Vwdiesel] biodiesel vs. "blends"

I've heard bad things about trying such shortcuts and how bad it is
for the fuel system. Years ago some car manuals would tell you to mix
your regular diesel with gasoline to create a winter blend. I don't
remember the exact relative amounts, but it was somewhere in the
30-50% range for gasoline, I think. The mystery catalyst is a type of
snake oil, in my opinion. Caveat emptor and all that. I sure wouldn't
put out any money for it. Probably wouldn't even bother to accept it
for free.
