[Vwdiesel] 944 Diesel

Audi had two 5-cylinder diesels in the 80's, available in the US in the
Audi 5000 platform. Both were 2.0l derivatives of the VW 1.5/1.6
engines. The naturally aspirated engine was engine code CN, producing
67hp @4800 RPM. The turbocharged version was a DE engine code, producing
84hp @4500 RPM.

Neither engine is very common in the US, and after '84 you could only
get the DE, and then only in Canada. Both engines share a bolt pattern
with the VW 5-cylinder engines, and I believe that both the CN and the
DE retain the 11mm headbolts that the 1.5 and first year 1.6 diesels
have (the solution being installing aftermarket studs). I -know- the CN
has 11mm headbolts.

I have a CN block, head and injection pump if anyone wants to buy it off
me. I've disassembled it somewhat in the process of breaking it down for
a reringing and possible rebore, as it was using quite a bit of oil when
I bought it. The project I bought it for has moved on to other things,
and I'd be willing to let it go for a good price if folks want to
contact me off-list. The head is not warped and the block has not been
cracked around any of the bolt holes.

-Kurt
