A couple of questions: 1)Is the head gasket the same for the Quantum
turbodiesel as for the Dasher &Rabbit diesels? The local parts house says it is.

They're actually right! Same gasket, same most everything!

2)What is the best way to bleed air from the cooling system?

Usually isn't a problem. Same as filling when empty, pull upper hose,
fill,
connect and fill reservoir. Start warm up a bit shut down. Pull cap, refill
at
reservoir.

3) Any particular

Should be. There are only two pumps that I know of. The "rotary"
one and the diaphragm one. If the rotary ones aren't working they
usually need the clearance between the lid and the rotor reduced or
the vanes checked if they're sticking. The vacuum ones nearly always
just need a diaphragm kit. It's cheaper than the "bigger" kit with the
valves. I've had better luck with the old valves than the new!

Best test for a leaking head gasket is compression test or bubbles
in the small return line and lots of pressure in the system (when you
remove the cap) after just a short, light drive. I guess there IS a
test liquid for diesel head gasket leaks but most only have the fluid
for a gasser and it'll test negative on a diesel.
