The following is a reply to Mark Shephard & others.
The person who questioned my mechanical skills is correct, so don't feel bad about doing so. I am a self taught "shade tree mechanic" whose skills are lacking in many areas. That is one of the reasons I like this discussion group so well. I have checked the radiator with a laser thermometer which points a laser beam at any part of where ever you want to measure temperature. What would you recommend for cleaning the injectors? Haven't had time to check out the other suggestions yet but intend to do so. I have some "Amsoil Diesel fuel Modifier" which I plan to add. Have also heard automatic transmission fluid is good for this.
It looks like 10 & 20 year old cars are a lot cheaper in the UK & Europe than the USA. I felt I got a good deal on my Quantum diesel for $1,000 & then I see an '86 Quantum (Passet) wagon selling in eBay in the UK for 185 Pounds or aprox. $370 that looks nicer than mine, although it probably had more rust (mine has none)& had about double the miles as mine has almost 118,000 miles.
