The "extra male plug for a spade connector" is located at the fixture?

At least it's not Lucas! The fix for the Audi's was to install an
additional ground wire to each tail light. The main problem on
both of them isn't so much bad wiring, grounds, etc. It's the use
of galvanized steel as the "printed circuit" in the tail lights,
instead
of copper or brass. There's usually an extra male plug or two where
a spade connector can plug onto for additional ground.
