[Vwdiesel] Starting problem

I suspect that the 2 faults are unrelated. He may have a fueling problem. 
The voltmeter add-on is just showing the alternator switch after a few 
seconds into charging mode. It would do this even if the engine did not die. 
Take a length of wire and go from battery positive across to the solenoid 
switch on the fuel pump. Listen for a click. See if engine still dies even 
though the only electricity  needed to run is thus being supplied...
