[Vwdiesel] Someone should try this

The pistons are different, if only because of the cut out for the oil
squirters. I thought that they had some kind of special coating on them as
well, but that I'm not sure of at all. But those squirters would sure help
with lowering piston temps, and since they're aluminum I would think that
could be important. The valves are also different - sodium filled or
something? and hardened. I think the seats might even be a slightly
different temper or something.

So no, not a lot of differences, but I always figured they were there for a
reason - a large car company isn't going to spend extra money re-engineering
the parts to a higher, more complicated standard unless there were some
problems without them.

Who knows, it might work great, but to my mind it's not just the $450 that
you'd be risking, but the entire engine could have problems, if the pistons
warped and took out the cylinders, or the head got seriously damaged, or
whatever. You get my point, I think. And for me at least, taking the risk of
stranding us with two little ones is a large deterrent.

All that said, if I lived at a high altitude and my power was down I would
*seriously* consider trying it out. Heck, once I'm out of school and my wife
has a second car so the prospect of our main vehicle being down wouldn't be
a problem, I might very well think about putting a turbo on mine. I just
wanted to throw in a word of caution, is all.

I did notice that the site was talking about sometime in the near future
carrying some kind of injection pump contraption. I wasn't sure if it would
be some kind of boost kit for your existing pump or a whole new pump or ???

But it looked like it was in the works, so once they have that you might not
even have to figure that part out.
